I have virtually given up trying to sell anything to people. I pick EVERY drop. I ID evrything. I have a set value in my mind for a given area. I salvage anything under that value and merchant the rest. You will be surprized how fast your account grows. I only carry the ID and salvage kits, both superiors, so I have room for 43 items.
If I find something of REAL value, I will hold it a few days watching the WTBs. I don't hold more than 3 or 4 days.

Someone said they couldn't give away a mesmer green. Last night I did. Saw a lvl 7 mesmer with no guild tags, opened trade. He/she asked How Much?. When I said free, they put a blue Chalice in the trade window "to make room". The TY's went on and on.

for an example... Today i trashed a few items that had these stats:

======

wodden boar scepter

Req 9 Domination

Halves casting time domination magic 20%

Halves skill recharge of domination magic 19%

-----

2 perfect axe deathbane mods.

1 perfect 20 swordsmanship mod

3 perfect halves casting time of spells inscribtions

and a few others i cannot remember..

It may seem like an idiotic thing to do.. but that is how bad the market is.. there really is not even a need for cash anymore in this game. other than for buying keys to open chests that hold more worthless crap.

After the AoE nerf I said "the heck with it" (and some other choice phrases) and quit GW for about 4 months. I'm currently back though, and plan on staying a while.

I donno, I never stood around much at AH and spammed. I just went on my own and had a nice supprise when I saw "your [item] sold." If i needed money ASAP then I would spam in for sale chat. But it gave me the chance to do more questing/raiding and less time standing around in a city, and spam. So for me, the AH was a great way to sell your items.

Angry Selling anything is a nightmare unless it's in high demand.

If I've had something in my inventory/storage for a while and not sold it when I keep saying I will, I'll merchant it unless anyone I know is in need of it. Usually, knowing my luck, I only get what I think are great drops, even golds or items that wiki says is a rarity, that to everyone else aren't even worth as much as a jar of GW celebrity toenail clippings. Also, what I think Anet should do is bring back MESSAGE SUPPRESSION!!! (subtle hint to Anet if they decide to read this at some point). Trade and General chat spam alone makes me really angry, especially when it's a total $)^!)$&"*!~#ing noob spamming the stupidest of stupid questions a million times over until he's got the either very easy or obvious answer or one person looking for a team in the emptiest of locations . It's not like spamming is going to get them the sale any faster or get them into a team any quicker.

/End rant + my input on my selling habits .

I end up id'ing all, just out of curiosity, then give freebies, then merch...I gave up on selling because...I just don't spam, and don't have the machinegun eyes to put up with the almost unreadable spam in the popular outposts...

(and no, i don't go to options and enlarge the spam...i mean chat window)

I only sell things that are either perfect rare skinned weapons (worth 100k+) or certain perfect mods - other than that I merch everything.

the people who bitch about not being able to sell their items are the same ones who bitched to increase droprates because they were poor.
you all did this to yourselves and i have no sympathy for you.

I didn't see anyone asking for sympathy from you or anyone else.

drop rates are decreased now with each run you make. (at least if you farm)

lol @ "if it ain't expensive, it ain't worth buying"

What they asked for most was an Auction House. Lack of an Auction House is the core problem here and reason why no one bothers to buy or sell anything other than super high end things.

They asked for more drops to somewhat alleviate the lack of an Auction House via more stuff to sell in theory allowing for some money making. That didn't turn out so well.

But the point remains that had the core problem been solved via an Auction House, then everybody would buy and sell everything happily and there would be very few complaints.

We have a winner! Follow the above advice and you can't go wrong. That's exactly what I've done, and now have a rating over 200. I have sold no more than 3 or 4 items in-game, the rest going on gwguru auction. Sure, I could have gotten more cash if I had spent countless hours WTSing in LA, but I figure I more than make it up with quantity (i.e. spending those hours getting more stuff in Sorrow's Furnace, and having fun doing it.)

Some simple rules to follow:
1) Don't auction off anything that's not gold, nor max, unless it's very very rare (think crystalline, dwarven, sephis, fleshy, etc).
2) Set your starting bid at no more then 1/2 what you'd like to get for it.
3) Don't set a reserve on the item, ever.

The reason that most people aren't successful selling stuff on gwguru is that they set their prices way too high. They forget about the psychology of auctioning all together. You can often get more for an item with a very low starting price that encourages bidding. If you don't believe me, check various green items being auctioned off. Competitive betting FTW.

Oh yeah, we don't need a GW Auction House. Guild Wars Guru works just fine, thank you very much.

OK hands down, as far as GW goes, Guru is a pretty snappy set up. But an auction house should be set up in game, and not having to switch between what ever browser you have and GW...now, if GW would let Guru have some kinda set up inside the game? Then you got something going!

lol Akh's kinda harsh but he speaks true none the less.

One thing I do these days to save space is, if I have an item I want to hold on to to sell, and mods that are perfect for that item, I'll often add the mods. A few months ago this was a bad idea from a fiscal perspective but nowadays mods are so worthless that it's better to have the free space, and perfectly modded weapons tend to sell faster so it's a 2 way "win" in my opinion.

Also, if it aint perfect, or very rare and close to perfect, then it aint worth the inventory space…..merchant it. If it is perfect but not rare or sought after, then just unload it for a few k, it’s not worth the hassle to try and get more. Every now and then stick all of it in the Sell section here at Guru and hope for a little somethin. More often then not I find myself giving stuff away to low levels. For example the other day I ran through the keyless chests in Elonia and the best item I got was a Req 10 Spikey War Hammer, everything else was high req and worthless skins so I just gave the whole lot away to random low levels on newb island. Opens up inventory and makes new players pretty happy.

I usually merch the stuff I find. Although on the rare occasion that I find a perfect mod for something, I don't sell them. I either use them myself if I have a character that can use them, or I give them away to newer players. May as well share the wealth
